You do Realize the Blog is Called 'Thunkofcardgames', Right?

Or at least it says so in the url.

And it's how I personally address my blog.

And now I've changed the title of the blog.

Okay I'm going to be blunt here, Cardfight Vanguard is boring. It used to be an alright game, as everything before set 10 was moderately around the same power range and, ignoring Cross-Rides, it was a rather level playing field. Nowadays, not so much. And what with the game turning into Cardight RestandtheVanguard and only being able to find so much joy out of an errata'd format I'm building with friends, it's just no longer grabbing my interest like it used to.

Not to mention the CFV communities are all generally big bumbling messes of asshats everywhere but, I think some of you who have been reading for a while have already figured this out.

I think I want to branch out from here. Find some other card game or turn based strategy game to put analytical thought to. Now before someone mentions it, I am not abandoning Cardfight Vanguard. I will continue to post my own kind of analysis articles at the irregular rate I already do. After all, there's still so much I can write about game design when I feel my rough drafts become presentable. However, now just seems to be a really good time to try and get my feet wet with other games, maybe carry something over from Vanguard over to another game or vice versa, and explore these new concepts. Who knows, maybe I'll come across an entire chapter of newfound thought that I can't normally find from Cardfight Vanguard alone, but would be brilliant if I could carry it over.

So, big question. Does anyone want to read my articles analyzing games other than Cardfight Vanguard, and if so, do you have any recommendations? I'd like to keep it to card games, just for consistency's sake, but so long as you don't tell me to review Kaijudo, I'd be very interested to accommodate.

  1. Do a dead game for lulz, like Score's DBZ. God I loved that one.

  2. In Real Life, play Magic. Digitally, give HexTCG a shot.

  3. you could try future card buddyfight since the tcg AND anime come out in jan 2014 for both english and japanese versions at same time. seem interesting and fun. maybe more fun than cfv so far. but that's up to you.

  4. TehNacho, I agree with you. Cardfight Vanguard is getting kind of boring. Mainly because it seems like Bushiroad is making too many card games at once, and it seems to me that diversification for more profits if the aim of their game. Which is why I think card design and what-not has become more predictable and gimmicky. I still love Season 1 though, from there personally I think it went downhill slowly.

  5. Try Weiss Schwarz? It'll be nice to see more articles on this game considering there's a lot to talk about.

  6. Odd one to suggest given this is only in japanese but maybe have a look at Force of Will. Would be something different :3

  8. I would second Weiss Schwarz, it's also made by bushi, and a lot of the rules and procedures (drive checks) are the same, so it may be easier for you to adapt. It also has very little in terms of blogs to follow about it, and has a moderately large following, which would make it an ideal target game.

  9. I'd read them. You've done such a good job with Vanguard already. My recommendation would be to try out a game with a closed card pool like Yomi.

  10. Please write articles about Yugioh!

  11. Weiss scharz would be interesting to cover, seeing as that game (from having played it) takes several mechanics from vanguard (given it was made by Bushiroad). For example, the concept of stock (which is your resources in the game) is much better than using counterblasting for effects, one obtains more resources through attacks. As such, given you win by leveling, it makes managing resources much easier, as there is less risk.

But don't mistake me; one still needs to learn how to manage their resources effectively, especially considering there are decks out there that utilize more stock, relative to others. All in all, it is just a suggestion.

  12. Could do Hearthstone, you'd have broad appeal, naturally low barrier of entry and there are actually ZERO people doing detailed mathematical analysis at the moment.

Of course you'd need a beta key, but I'm just planting seeds.
